Visa Application Procedures

Study Visa (X1-visa and X2-visa)

I. Visa Recipients

X1-visa will be issued to applicants who study in China on a long-term basis (more than 180 days)

X2-visa will be issued to applicants who study in China on a short-term basis (less than 180 days)

II. Materials to Be Submitted

1. Passport: original passport with blank pages for visa and a valid period of more than 6 months, and 1 copy of the photo page of the passport.

2. Visa application form and photos: 1 copy of Visa Application Form of the People’s Republic of China and 1 recent passport style color photo with full face, frontal view, no hat, and against a plain light background to be affixed to the application form.

3. Legal stay or residence certificates (for applicants applying outside their country of origin): You should provide valid original and photocopied certificates for legal stay, residence, work or study from your country of origin, or valid visa of the country of application if you are applying for a visa from outside your country of origin.

4 Former Chinese passports or visas (for applicants who held Chinese nationality before becoming foreign nationals): If you are applying for a Chinese visa for the first time, you should submit your original Chinese passports or photocopied photo page of your passports; If you once held a Chinese visa but now wish to apply for a visa with a newly issued foreign passport, you should submit the photocopied photo page of your former foreign passports and your former Chinese visa (If the name on your new passport is not identical with that on the former passport, you should also submit a certificate for name changes issued by related authorities).

5. X1-visa:
(1) The original and copy of the letter of offer issued by a host institution within China;
(2) The original and copy of Visa Application for Study in China (JW201 or JW202)

6. X2-visa:

The original and copy of the letter of offer issued by a host institution within China


Tips for Visa Application:

X1-visa holders are entitled to one entry into China and must apply for residence permits within 30 days after entry to avoid an illegal residence status. International students with X1-visas are recommended to arrive on designated dates as the school will not accommodate earlier arrivals.

X2-visa holders are entitled to multi-entries and the allowed number of days to stay is specified on the visa. International students holding X2-visas should bear in mind the visa expiry dates and arrive at school on designated dates.
